William Rothman: “Autobiography, Film, and the Double Existence of Cavell’s Philosophical Prose”

William Rothman — Professor of Motion Pictures at the University of Miami and author of many classic works on film, including Hitchcock: The Murderous Gaze — recently presented a paper on Cavell at the Lyon conference on Cavell’s work on film (which we first posted about here). The paper was entitled “‘Excerpts from Memory’: Autobiography, Film, and the Double Existence of Cavell’s Philosophical Prose” and Prof. Rothman has kindly agreed to let us share the full text of that paper with our readers. Many thanks to Bill for permitting us to reproduce it here!
